Our Girls Build LA Team (Team A.I.T) created a video to present everything that has happened throughout the year in our campaign and our impact. - Adults in Training Team Reflections: "Throughout this year, the A.I.T. had many challenges. We initially wanted to create an app, but we didn't really consider a lot of factors. We didn't have a mentor who could help us code the app. Also, we were short on time and we wouldn't be able to code an app or develop one we would be proud of. Girls who Code tried to help us but our time was too limited. At the end of the day, all 14 of us learned many things from our experience. We were able to create timely and information-packed workshops and it ended up being more beneficial than any app we could've produced. Also with fewer members, we we had an intimate bond that would not exist with 30 members." - Sumeya Abdulkarim "We faced many challenges throughout the campaign. We originally wanted to create an app to help everybody learn essential life skills that come with becoming an adult, but we had very limited resources to build an app. During this time, many girls left the club and we began focusing on attracting girls who were truly committed to our campaign and wanted to make a difference in the community. We went from 30 members to 14 dedicated girls on the team. We decided to focus on making educational videos on 'how-to's" to post onto our Instagram and Youtube. We also decided to create workshops that students could attend and learn from. We were surprised by the big turnout for the workshops - over 500 students attended. We wanted to make an impact in our community and we achieved that. We gave students important information they don't learn in school, such as how to budget in college, and filing taxes!" - Joyce Liu |

Testimonials
"These workshops are great opportunities for us to learn valuable skills in a comfortable environment surrounded by our friends." "Learning life essentials like cooking may seem unimportant at first, but as we become more independent and grow into young adults; learning a life skill at this age will help us in the long run and I feel that the GBLA team is doing a great job in tackling that." "Since I graduated this past year from Culver, I have basically been thrown into the "real world" and luckily I had people in my life who helped guide me. Unfortunately there are others who are not as lucky as I am and are thrown in blindsided. After leaving a focus group GBLA asked me to participate in, I could say that they are doing a great job bringing these issues to light and actually doing something and making a difference. Despite not having these resources for myself when I was in high school I am so happy that they are there now for others." |
"The campaign gives students a basis of knowledge in different areas that we are often not exposed to" "After attending the GBLA Interview Workshop, it really showed me that I do that may not show me how to present myself in the right way. I learned how to communicate what I want to say and how I want to present myself in a timely matter." |
